Stable Platform for Your Dome, with a Premium Look
A raised wooden terrace (platform) provides an ideal foundation for your Glampex Dome, while adding a unique and exclusive atmosphere to your glamping site. The following step-by-step guide walks you through the construction process.
Main Steps of the Construction
1) Plan the Platform Layout
Consider the following:
● Where will the dome be located?
● Would you like to have an outdoor lounge area, kitchen, bathroom, or even an outdoor bathtub?
● Also take Hungarian and local building regulations into account!

2) Test the soil
It is important that the platform is built on stable, compacted soil to prevent it from sinking over time.
To ensure this, it is recommended to examine the soil layers at several points on the planned site using a shovel, drill, or even an excavator.

3) Clear the Area
Remove vegetation and make sure it doesn’t grow back.
This helps prevent weeds, insects, or small animals from settling underneath the platform.

4) Foundation (Post Base, Ground Screw, Concrete, etc.)
Choose from the following options:
● Ground screws installed manually or with machinery
● Point foundations prepared by soil drilling
● Pre-fabricated footings
Important: it must be deep and strong enough depending on soil type and regulations.

5) Install Beams (Main Carriers)
The orientation of the main beams will determine the direction of the remaining structural elements (planks, decking).
It’s advisable to choose timber sizes that minimize waste from cutting.

6) Install joists
General rule: about 45 cm spacing is ideal to support the weight without sagging.
Always follow applicable standards for the chosen timber.
Tip: If the platform is directly on the ground, this is the stage to install utilities (water, electricity, sewage), as it will be difficult later.

7) Place Structural OSB or Plywood under the Dome
Use moisture- and insect-resistant plywood under the dome, because:
● The dome will cover it anyway, so expensive finish isn’t needed here,
● The board gives a solid base for the interior flooring.
Tip: Cut the panels straight (not in the dome’s curve), so the exterior finish will align nicely later.

8) Lay Decking Boards
If the previous steps were done accurately, laying the deck will be straightforward.
Don’t forget to leave 4–6 mm gaps between the boards for expansion.
Later, once you’re halfway done, it’s worth measuring again to avoid having to rip the last boards lengthwise.
● Also take Hungarian and local building regulations into account!

9) Install Railings, Stairs, Bracing
Regulations vary by county!
Check whether railings, handrails, or structural bracing are required—especially if the platform is elevated.

10) Surface Treatment – Stain or Paint (Optional)
This is not only for style but also for timber protection!
If you’re using timber that doesn’t need treatment, you can skip this step.

11) Install Blocks for Dome Anchoring
After assembling the dome frame, you need to reinforce the anchoring points from below using blocks.
We recommend using solid wood blocks of at least 90 mm thickness to ensure all anchor bolts hold firmly.
