FAQ
Here you will find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about Glampex domes.
General – Dome – questions
What are Glampex Domes made of?
We could dive into technical details that only an experienced engineer would understand — but I have a feeling you’re more curious about how durable and long-lasting they are.
In short: VERY.
The frame is made of powder-coated steel (or galvanized steel for an industrial look). The cover is a PVC membrane with double welding to protect it from sun damage over time. The insulation and curtains are made from flame-retardant polyester, with a 4–6 mm thick aluminum bubble wrap on the back of the insulation.
All fittings are galvanized or stainless steel.
Yes, they are legally considered tents — but that’s just a classification.
If you’re an engineer and want the technical details, check the individual sizes for full specifications.
What sizes are the domes available in?
Glampex Domes range in size from the cute 5-meter version to the giant 10-meter model.
Sizes and internal heights:
- 5m = 2.9m tall
- 6m = 3.5m
- 7m = 3.5m
- 8m = 4m
- 10m = 5m
- M5 = 19 square meters
- M6 = 28 square meters
- M7 = 38 square meters
- M8 = 50 square meters
- M10 = 79 square meters
What exactly does the size refer to?
The size refers to the diameter — because who wants to do geometry while camping?
So when we say “6m dome,” we mean it’s 6 meters in diameter.
What is a geodesic dome?
It’s what happens when a tent and a math genius have a baby.
It’s a spherical structure made up of a network of triangles.
Super strong and visually striking. The shape was popularized by Buckminster Fuller.
Think of it as the beehive of architecture: strong, efficient, and beautiful.
How long do the domes last?
The cover lasts 8–15 years.
Just like too much sun can dry out your skin, it can wear out the cover over time.
But no need to replace the whole dome — just get a new cover and it’ll be good as new.
Can I leave the dome up year-round?
Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it.
Leave it up all year and enjoy your bookings!
Weather-Related Questions
How weather-resistant is the dome?
We chose PVC material because it’s more waterproof than canvas.
The dome has a single, seamless cover — like a raincoat.
Tip: where accessories (fan, window, etc.) connect to the dome, we recommend sealing with silicone.
How well does it handle wind?
It can withstand winds up to 120 km/h.
The spherical shape minimizes resistance — instead of fighting the wind, it flows with it.
Is it really unbearably hot inside during summer?
That’s a myth.
While it’s legally considered a tent, insulation, exhaust fans, blackout curtains, and windows all help keep the interior cool.
Heat mostly enters through large windows and stagnant air — both of which can be managed.
We recommend installing a 3.5 kW inverter air conditioner for year-round comfort.
What about winter?
The dome’s transparent sections warm up the interior during the day.
At night, the inverter AC keeps the temperature cozy.
Insulation helps retain the heat inside.
What happens during a hailstorm?
It’s like rain on a duck’s back — it just rolls off.
Even golf ball-sized hail hasn’t caused any damage.
What is dangerous: sharp objects — those should be avoided.
Maintenance
How do I maintain the dome?
Exterior: warm, soapy water and dish soap — think of it as a spa day. Avoid harsh chemicals!
Insulation: use a damp cloth or vacuum. Don’t over-soak it — mold is not a welcome guest.
Does the frame need maintenance?
Thanks to the powder coating, it requires very little upkeep.
If the coating gets damaged, it’s best to touch it up to prevent rust.
Very occasionally, you might need to tighten the tension rods.
What if a branch punctures the cover?
Don’t panic!
We provide spare patches for both clear and solid areas — think of it as the dome’s first aid kit.
Customization
Can the dome be customized?
Absolutely! It’s like a blank canvas — you decide what goes on it.
Can I change the color of the cover?
Yes, multiple color options are available.
Contact us for the current selection and any potential extra costs.
How can it be customized?
Accessories, layout, heating systems, colors — almost anything is possible.
Can I choose the color of the insulation and curtains too?
Yes, we offer several color options for those as well — allowing you to create a cohesive interior design.
